Thursday Baby Update: Solid Food

Vegan Goodness:
Today we ate:

  • Breakfast: Green smoothies for Mom and LP and then cream of wheat and toast for everyone
  • Lunch: Mom had some pasta with peanut sauce while Dad and LP had grilled cheese sandwiches
  • Dinner: Sloppy Lentils from the slow-cooker on Dad’s homemade burger buns.

Money Matters:
Today Mom stayed home and nursed her cold with IP while dad and LP went to the library and the park.  Nothing spent!

Thursday Baby Update:

As we continue on our solid food escapes, here are some of things IP has eaten recently:

  • Sweet potatos
  • Quinoa
  • Bread crust
  • Cheerios
  • Curried Pakora Puffs
  • Yukon Gold potatos
  • Hummus
  • Steamed carrot
  • Applesauce

We haven’t made any pureed baby food at this point – we are trying this whole “baby-led weaning” concept, where you let your baby eat regular food instead of purees, and seeing how it goes.  I like that this system has a name, because it was kind of what I was doing anyway, but with a name somehow it feels more valid.  So far I love the fact that I can just give IP what we are eating, or just roast some sweet potatos with dinner instead of steaming and pureeing large batches of fruits and veggies.  However, her last few bowel movements (yes, we’re starting poop talk.  feel free to stop reading) have been solid – and unpleasant – for her.  So, we’re going to cut back to just steamed sweet potatos and applesauce (two of her favorite foods) for a while and see if that helps.  I think she loves eating with all of us at the table, no matter what she is getting on her spoon – or her tray!
