After running my first 1/2 marathon a few weeks ago I took a long break from running while my back healed up. Two weekends ago I ran a fun 5K with some friends and then went for a few three mile runs in the last couple weeks. Everything feels great. My back and knees aren’t sore during, or after, running. While I feel like I’ve been a bit lazy, since my longest run has been 3.5 miles since Memorial Day, I’m also reminding myself of how far I have come. When I first started running it was a big deal when I ran a whole mile. Three years ago I had to train for several months to build up to a five mile race. Now, three miles feels like a breeze, and the main reason I’m not running five is because I promise the G-man I won’t be gone for more than 1/2 an hour on a weekday run. The bottom line is, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and while I’m enjoying some relaxing jogging, I’m also on the lookout for another half-marathon so that I get back to pushing myself soon enough. Next time my goal is to finish in under two hours!
Keep working on that pace, and that sub 2 Half will be yours. Half Marathons are hugely popular, and there are a bunch to choose from. Keep it up!
Thanks for the support! I really need to work on my pacing. I seem to run 10 minute miles, no matter if I’m running 4 miles or 10. In the 1/2 I was on track with 10 minute miles up until mile 10, when my back started to really hurt. I need to do some more speed and strength training in order to better pace myself through a race.
